Angel I Am Not

An angel I am not, can’t you see!

These wings of midnight are tattered,

Torn and bloodied with hate.  I don’t see

How anyone can see something such

As an angel within me, with this black

Soul that desperately holds back the

Demons that dwell deep within my

Psyche.  What I crave, I cannot have.

What I long for, I cannot have.  Denied

By Destiny, laughed at by Fate and

Condemned to the mundane life I am

Forced to live, I eek out a meek life.

Letting words flow from me, ones that

Shall never be seen, truly seen, by whom

I love forever more.  I can see my Knight,

Atop his white steed, that great white winged

Beast, who’s whinnies travel upon the

Winds so that I might hear an echo of

What once was.  I’m no angel, unless one

Considers me an angel of death to Love.

first of all, beautiful poetry. these words are strong and sharp and when i read it midfully it cuts to the core, of who i am. Your tone is instant, frightening and honest and because of that it not only grips me but exhilerates wild and free. so many lines would stand alone, yet even more powerful in context. it does seem to jump around cutting itself short.

You're just normal Laura. No more and no less. I feel the same way. I fight my darkside day in and day out to be an angel in mind, body and spirit because this is my eye opening choice. Now when i close my eyes the other self tries to darken my spirit but i am strong. Thanks for the insight. GEM

Next Arrivals by Robin Ouzman Hislop

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
