Words
Words, just words,
No more, no less.
Yet attractive they are,
As they call out from
Beyond the parchment.
They beckon, they seduce,
They even stroll like
A couple in love upon a beach.
Yet, all they are are words
Are words so necessary
In this world? A way to
Express, to emote what
One’s soul feels deep within.
Perhaps, even, words are
All some have when
No other form of consolation
Can be given.
Sometimes I truly wonder
If baring one’s soul with
Verbage is a good thing
Cuz words get in the way
And they tend to be
Misunderstood or spoken
Prematurely.
Yet, I find myself enthralled
With verse, some more so
Than others and it leaves me
To think … am I just daft?
I shake my head and well
Pishaw! What else should
I think … or do we poets
Truly all bear our souls
To the world through prose?
To fall in love with words,
I wonder, if this just might
Be my downfall.
