The Womb
Walk on water, feather light foot
Treading upon rippling glass
Better not step heavily otherwise
Pay the price with pain. If only
I could sprout wings, so that I
Might take flight and soar
Within the cotton puffy clouds
That drift with the breeze, swim
With the tides until I’ve become
One with the Universe. I want
To travel to the cosmos and
Witness birth of new life as
Nebulas and gas giants spew
Forth mesmerizing hues. To
Watch a star be born, then to
Die, a million years in one
Single moment could pass
Me by in this reckless world.
Let me hold the baby close
And nurture its spirit so
That this terrible world
Will not corrupt it. Let me
Rock myself to sleep, within
My own arms in comfort.
A mother’s womb is a haven
For the unborn as is the
Universe for all our souls.
