I wade into the water slowly,
Letting the waves crash upon
My feet. The vast ocean is
Displayed, stretched out before
Me as I contemplate life and
All it holds for me. Becoming
You say? I can only hope, I
Can only dream! Yet, as I wander
Out further into the ocean’s blue
I can only look back, to see you
Standing there, watching me.
Is this where our paths separate?
There is a storm approaching.
Hurricane season comes again.
Maybe this was only the eye.
Turmoil, this ocean has become
As I walk out further into the
Harsh waves that now crest ever
So rapidly. There is no time to
Breath!
I’m knocked off my feet now.
Gasping for breath, I turn to
Look back at you, only to see
That there is no one there at
All. You were just a dream
That came to me while awake.
Perhaps I’ve already drown within
My own tears of heartache. And
You could only stand there at watch,
Helpless and out of touch as I drifted
Away with the current of the storm.
The undertow is strong here.
My body is pulled down into the
Murky depths below. The churning
Sand clouds these eyes that now
Struggle to peer into the darkness
That has now taken me, body and soul.
Drifting down now …
I can see the sun filtering down
Through the water. A shimmering
Light it is, reflecting ever so dimly
At this terrible death that threatens
To crush me! I try to scream for
Help, but no one can hear me from
Beneath the water.
Is that your face I see, peering down
From above? Maybe you are the eye
And I am the storm that ebbs and flows
Like the tides. I’m lost down here, in
The depths of this vast ocean now.
Maybe these are your tears that now
Filter down like a soft Summer rain.
I’m sorry for the pain I’ve caused.

Reviews of "Wading"

How quickly wading can become swimming and swimming drowning. And yet we go in wading time and time again. What is life?
Welcome!
The poems in this beautifully bound book are a result of over twenty years of observations. Observations of the world around us and on the telecommunications network. All of the hate, love, heroism, disasters, and those who help.

my soul.
