They make for hard walking,
those concrete shoes that
seem to keep me planted here
on terra firma.
Their weight, it keeps me
from flying!
I long to spread these wings
and soar high, yet, it seems,
the art of flying is lost to me.
The struggle, it can be harrowing
as tears stream down from all my
crying. I look around, yet no
sound to chime in and no movement
to catch my attention.
Alone in this desolate wood, I
travel in these shoes formed of
concrete. Heavy is the burden
they have placed upon me.
If only I could spread my wings and
fly once more, and shed them.
