Darkness falls, mingling with the
shadows and dancing along the walls.
Twilight gives birth to night, saying
good-bye to the wanning light.
There is nothing left here but the
shattered memory.
Is this all there is, plight for the heart
to tread upon and call its own?
Tears splinter the ground ...
The memory holds a face, eyes that gaze
off to some distant place. As if lost inside,
and I want to be lost there too! Then, maybe,
just maybe, I would not feel so alone.
Even the voices have gone, turned their backs
to me, shunned me from my inner world. I
weep silently, unseen tears and unheard cries.
For here, there is no noble knight to come
rescue the princess from the tower. I cut off
all my hair so that no man may climb, and I
shall rot here in this chamber, tucked away
all nice and neat.
I still hope.
There is still one face that I see, upon the closing
of my eyes. Yet, tis only a dream in which this
knight wraps me within his arms and whispers in
my ear soothing words to calm my soul's frantic
weeping. I feel safe there, in those arms. But, alas,
this is merely a dream which fades upon waking with
the morning sun.
If only I could stay in that dream for eternity.
This is my oasis, my safe haven ... place of peace. Even
if it only comes momentarily before the eyes flutter open.
Where for art thou, my knight?
Please, come back to me.

There are worse things to live for than dreams. When I go to sleep I often dread waking in the morning. But I always do. So I try to daydream as much as possible. Sometimes I read all day just to get as far away from my body as possible. Right now that's how I survive.
