The following story/poem is fiction, but keep in mind that there is a blurry line between fiction and reality.dlj

Just a little crazy
© 2007
Dan Johnson

I been thinking lots about the past
Whoa, how’d life go by so fast?

Would you believe it was just a sweet dream
or two ago
that I was dreaming about you?
We walked in the summer breeze,
no cares,
a life to share.
Then it was gone quicker then
A three minute song,
and promises made,
were mixed like metaphors, you wearing
satin, I wore plaid, just once.

Long time ago I learned you can’t change the past,
but you can change;
the way you think
and
the things you choose,
just in case, choice number two,
comes looking for you.
and I have, have you?

We rode the merry-go-round and I smiled
as you reached, ever so in vain for that brass ring
that hung just out of reach,
like life, that ring resembled those illusive dreams,
just another out of control, unreachable thing,
too bad you said, got to go, see you after a little while.

You went off and married that guy from Seattle,
I went...just a little crazy...and for some time did battle
with my mind,
but I’m fine now, thanks for asking.

For now I’m just thinking about the past…and
Whoa, how’d life go by so fast?

Interesting that you have written what I have done many times...perhaps it's an element of aging, to reflect and understand. The tinges of humor, "you wearing satin, I wore plaid, just once" helps in looking at life in balance. Enjoyed the write my friend.

i always think its strange that inside my head i'm still believe I'm very young, though my soul believes it to be very old... who invented that darn calendar anyway!

Yes Dan~ It flies by and then one day you realize

Whoa, how’d life go by so fast?
I guess we're so busy living it, we just don't notice until our quieter times approach...?
Much to think about here...
Love and Peace~

Like Reba McIntire said, "Life gets more precious the less of it there is to waste." Your words couldn't be truer.

You are so right Dan, There we have life one minute and gone the next, our children don't realize when we say cherish every moment because you will turn around and it is gone never to return. I too know this feeling.

This is a thinking writer's poem. Your words are a marvelous, and the story, superb. Time is always the great healer. It is often our best friend. Who knows, with number one, you might have gone on to NOT WRITE for us, and that is unthinkable. You bring a different tag line to AD readers. Thanks. - Bill

Good write,Dan. How's that song go, "If we're ever going to survive, we have to be a little crazy?"

From your bio - Writing is the second hardest thing for a writer to do. The hardest thing for a writer to do is pick up the pen.

How about this: Writing well is the hardest thing to do, picking up the pen is just the starting point.

Best,

Jim

It does go by fast doesn't it Dan. But its our memories, such as you have penned here, that make it all worth-while. Well done! Blessings ...

Awesome poem! (Is it permissible to say 'awesome' without sounding trite?). What a deft assortment of words--each so delightfully placed. A keeper!
