Once upon a time!
Fond memories!
Trepidations, yet with happiness I wait,
Much entranced, before an ancient iron gate,
Someone with whom I shared my fate,
Someone loved, and far too late,
Moist and soft, in moss deep green,
Just of the dew some sunlight’s sheen,
Oh my God where have you been?
It’s been so long, since I have seen,
Come on in, come on, swerving back her shawl,
Dark green, a matching tam chanter, and once more she’d call,
Come in my love, please come in, and don’t stall,
Tears now welling in her eyes, she now broke down to bawl,
Oh my God so long it’s been, give me a hug, how have you been?
The withered happy hands old bones and flesh now lean,
Her silver hair, with broach of gold, her eyes that deep blue sheen,
Squeezing flesh and happiness, and tearing eyes, yet keen,
As I remembered her, that colourful patched dress, the apple doll face,
This is how I remember this most loving space,
Tiny windows, low ceilings, paintings and pictures, what a soul filled space,
Ach, so much love, so much heart, her hearth did grace,
In a moat, of ancient past, you’d never know,
Mountains of earth, she lived below,
There were a spinning wheel and a basket to sow,
Little tiny kids walked to and fro,
They’re sweet milk; she shared for begging hands,
She would live; she had no dire demands,
Poor she was oh yes, the war of lands,
However, all she understands,
Not many pennies in her purse or Thalers weight,
Still many more she’d give to beggars at the gate.
Come on in she’d say and wait,
However, never with an offering late,
Moreover, if embarrassed at her empty realms,
In milk and bred, reach out her alms,
Oh yes such riches, such as warming charms,
Now all remembered in her arms,
This how this begging little soul,
Ancient times she filled his bowl,
Enriching love with spice, her goal,
All these memories kept me whole,
Now standing at that empty gate,
For happiness relived my fate,
My hunger for her love would sate,
She came; we hugged a hundred years now late,
With tears and joy, I turned to wander,
Then said goodbye to memories yonder,
Where the path would lead, I’d ponder,
Then sunshine left, I heard the thunder.
Beatutiful remembrances from Grandmothers kindness, I remember mine with the same yearning for the love she gave me and that I never received again.
Most moving first part.
