To think of home so far away
On bended knee, for you I pray
The mud and filth, this trench so deep
I hope dear wife, my life to keep
So I may return, to see you once again
And end this nightmare, this awful pain
But its over the top, the charge begins
I've asked the Lord to cleanse my sins
He'll be beside me, on this baron land
And he'll steady me, and take my hand
And death may take me, on this sad day
But I trust my Lord, to guide me away
And take me to his heavenly home
In fields of gold, my soul will roam
And if you glance at the starlit sky
I'll smile at you, and wave goodbye
Please think of me, each now and then
And feel some pride, for all these men
Who died with me, through bloody tears
Remember us, in the passing years
I never knew, what this war was about
But I stayed and saw my duty out
So goodbye dear wife, God bless fom me
I will love you for eternity
