A young Belfast boy

Now Belfast Jack was a likeable lad
And he wore a constant smile
He would enter the shipyard in hobnail boots
Jack had worked there quite a while

He was handsome and quite dashing
His hair was black as tar
And young girls would eye him with delight
As they came from near and far

But Jack he had no time for love
Cause' the army was his dream
So he joined and travelled far to France
To the mighty fields of green

But when Jack arrived, his dream turned sour
Cause' there were no great fields of green
Just mud and filth and the barbed wire fence
In a land that was so obscene

Jack fell and clutched his wounded chest
As his life blood flowed so fast
But he smiled as only Jack could do
As he thought of his old Belfast

Now when darkness falls on old Belfast town
And the streets are barren and cold
You may sometime meet our Belfast Jack
As he walks his streets of old
