When men were men

Oh great German warrior, heart full of pride
If only our governments, could have put war aside
But if war has a reason, then this must be it
To bring forth great heroe's, from a bottomless pit

And a hero you were friend, when your nation they called
In your deep diving vessel, that we frequently mauled
For days we depth charged you, long into the night
And no one can know, of your fear and your fright

But we also had a calling, which I hope you understood
And I would have released you, if only I could
So in the deep Atlantic, your iron coffin lays
Sunk by our cruiser, in those dark ravaged days

And all these years later, I salute you my friend
A very brave Captain, who fought to the end
May people learn from you, of wars futility
And live life in peaceful harmony, with respectability

Cause' what good are dead heroe's, now what can they do?
And the heroe's in war, well there's more than a few
We can read and speak of them, show them all great respect
But lets not speak well, of a wars bloody act
