Dreamed into Town

I rolled into town
A huge cloud of dust
rose above the dirt road
looking for a lake
to fish
of course I was dreaming

I slid into the station
alongside a gas pump
fueled up
and there you were
long blonde hair
pretty face
A smile to die for
of course I was dreaming

After the dust settled
I didn’t know you

I rambled into this dream
in an old beat up truck
A 65 Ford
took my last dime
and as I counted out
my change
You smiled and winked
I’ll make up the difference

Of course I was dreaming

I started out the door
caught a glimpse of me
reflected in the glass
I was young and handsome
or so I thought anyway
you strolled over
and bought two grape sodas
I said “wanta take a spin”?

I opened the door
and you slid in
right next to me
I said I could use a sip
you handed me an ice cold bottle
I took a drink
and you cuddled up
and kissed me deeply
of course I was dreaming

I checked your breathing

I sighed and smiled
sure enough you smiled back
and said
“Let’s go to the lake”
you laughed
I’d never been there
We’d skinny dip
if I could find it
I’d dream right into you

I drove in circles
A greasy mechanic pulled up
alongside my truck
he sneered and I peeled out
and a siren sounded
The blue & red flashed
The cops shiny badge
where did I take
The wrong turn
of course I was dreaming

You just faded away

I awoke in a cloud of fog
wondering when the sun
would rise
I looked outside
sure enough
A 65 Ford pickup truck
was parked in front
I laughed out loud
I could still see your smile
feel your kiss
I sure enough wanted a sip
of an ice cold pop
and a dip in the lake
of course I was dreaming

I’d dreamed right into town

Had me hooked all the way through, Dale... Is it? Isn't it?? So the twist at the end made me laugh outloud - OF COURSE!! The daydream state that I inhabit ALLLLLLLLLL of the time... why didn't I recognise it sooner? But what of the cops?? Are you lookin out through bars as you write? :)) Gotta love it! TY Kate xx
