This was a little disappointment that happened when I was in California recentlty.
Pay to Pray
I went to a church today.
I couldn’t get inside to pray
because they wanted me to pay.
Only in Californ-ia.
It was an old mission in Santa Barbara,
where I didn’t get the opportunity
to have any spiritual visions.
Why didn’t the saints make it possible for me to
go in and pray without having to pay?
I didn’t want a tour,
just to go into the chapel and say a prayer,
to help me be more pure.
It didn’t make sense to me that they sold
me religious items from their gift shop,
but that is where my spiritual adventure had to stop.
Guess I should go back to Ohio
where visiting a church and praying are free.
Yep, I guess that is where I am supposed to be.
I think it is a SIN to have to
PAY to Pray! It is Outrageous!
You should be able to walk into
a chapel or mission ANYDAY of the
week and say a prayer to God! The very
idea! No wonder we have thunderstorms!

Nice write. I can't recall if I've ever been to that particular mission or not, but it is more than likely a part of the state parks system and no longer under the authority of the Catholic church. That said, it seems that religion will always find a way to make a person pay. One way or another.
