After three failed tries, Don had given up on love,
Each break-up had truly been a blessing, he thanked the stars above!
He was burning the midnight oil, immersed in his work,
When the phone's insistant ringing brought him back with a jerk!
Don answered the phone, highly upset,
He would render a tongue lashing the caller wouldn't soon forget.
" John, please don't hang-up, I need to talk!"
" My life has been so empty since you decided to walk!"
" Why did you go? What did I do wrong?"
" You know that I love you, I have all along!"
Don was about to say that she had the wrong number,
But her pleading voice tugged at his heart, making his mood somber.
This poor girl had encountered a jerk,
Who loves them and leaves them, that's how they work.
Having been dumped, Don felt her pain,
The whys haunt you and drive you insane.
She stopped talking and softly sighed,
She had taken Don's emotions on a wild ride.
He said," I am John's roommate, he's not here",
" But I will give him your message, My Dear".
" Please don't hang-up, you need to be heard",
" I have felt your pain and will listen to your every word!"
Don spent the rest of the night calming her fears,
They chatted like old friends, sharing laughter and tears.
They exchanged numbers and each made a new friend,
Maybe a romance will blossom and a new love will begin.
