Shadow Children are bearly seen and never heard, allowed to stay as long as they stay out of the way.

Unshed tears fill my eyes and inwardly I drown,
The little girl within me is sobbing, but there is no sound.
Memories of angry voices and pointed fingers, caused a cowering frame,
Faces contorted in rage proclaiming that I am to blame!
Lowered eyes and bowed head,
A little heart is breaking and I wish I was dead.
I am at their mercy, they have the right,
Fear was the blanket that covered me at night.
The world sees the perfect family, no one can I tell,
Behind closed doors, my life is Hell!
Mama is the director, barking orders, you do or die,
I must always obey, never to ask why.
Bad Little Girls would be carted off in the night,
To the waiting insane asylum, my promised plight.
I am broken and Mama will fix,
My lousy attitude, with whacks on the ass with a stick.
I am the property of Ma and Pa,
They can do as they please, for they are backed up by the law.
My birth monster was always in control,
I was forced to be a mindless zombie, did what I was told.
She ruled by divide and command,
All children were raised this way, she made me understand!
No friends were allowed, Mama was the center of my world,
I was unloved, unwanted, but allowed to stay, Shadow Girl.
I whisper," There, there", to the sobbing child within,
" Your tears will purge the past pain, so mourn, heal and mend!"

Heartbreaking poetry, PA. No child should have to deal with this growing up. Unfortunately, it is a reality for too many. Lydi**

The pain never quite washes away but your big heart survived and that is a blessing in itself for you offer so much to the world around you. Big cyber hug from me to you.

"...unshed tears fill my eyes and inwardly I drown..." the words are like white hot rods piercing ones heart, thinking, feeling, I was there once, I felt that, I thought I was the only one hurting so much in the whole world.
Then, you come with this words, and one doesn't feel alone anymore.

My Dad ruled this way as you describe
no friends he wanted us to have, but I found them anyway
and was spanked when caught with them.
Mom tried to help us best she could. She taught us how to
love and give behind Dads back, and also pray for Dad.
0 Dad just had to have it his way. I would never make a kid
go pick out their own switch. I always found small switches, but
would have to go back and get a bigger switch.
Thanks for sharing this SC.
Hugs and love,
Ron
