With each rising sun, more White Eyes came, taking more land and more of the Cherokee's way of life away.
From within the wickiup, a small cry awakens the morn,
This day, Prairie Rose was born.
Her proud father, Lone Elk, holds her high, to introduce her to the world,
The Great Spirit had blessed him with a beautiful baby girl.
But death had taken, Starlite, her mother away,
Starlite, would never embrace her baby or watch her at play.
Prairie Rose, was formed by the great love between woman and man,
This fact would be taught by Lone Elk, so Rose would understand.
Thus began Prairie Rose's Cherokee life,
Lone Elk must carry on, must raise Rose without his beloved wife.
He placed Starlite's body upon the burial pyre,
He prayed for her safe journey, weeping as he lit the fire.
A stony expression masked his handsome face,
He watched as the fire consumed Starlite's body, soon there would be no trace.
But Starlite's spirit would live on within tiny Prairie Rose,
The child possessed her great beauty, from head to toes.
Life had always been good for the Cherokee,
Mother Earth was so generous and they had land as far as the eye could see.
But with each rising sun, more White Eyes came, invading the range,
The Brave Cherokees, tried to cling to their way of life, not wanting change.
Lone Elk wondered, what would the future hold for Prairie Rose,
Lone Elk's eyes searched for answeres in the Big Sky, knowing only The Great Spirit truly knows.
A classic native American tale that honours the ways of life of these proud people and also reminds us how much they were made to sacrifice for what we have today.
too bad time cannot reverse itself, perhaps things could be different if the Great Spirit's intentions could be deciphered ... but of course, we know that's impossible ...
You've got to write this as a series for I'm hooked already SC, please? with sugar on it? Wonderful touching write. Those white eyes are bad guys, hey that's us. Shame on me for I've thought about this so often and my heart goes out to the Native Americans...Love and hugs, Bonnie
The drug called "The Shari" has been used for vision quests over many years. But, when all the rivers start drying up, the tribe must send a young hunter named Tomás on a much more important trip through the Amazon.
