We sit together she and I and talk of things from years gone by I tell her stories as our fingers work crocheting doilies it is her first How thrilled she was the day I asked if she would learn art from the past so she chose a ball of purple thread and listened so carefully to all I said She tells me her secrets her fears and hopes mother and daughter making slender ropes every stitch a memory passed on to her from the girl in me.
