Dakota was my first grandchild. Oh, how they can get to you!!
I watched his precious life begin
As my lovely child gave birth to him.
I held him close mere minutes later
Now he holds my heart in his hand forever.
As we fed him or just held him near
He’d entwine his hand into our hair.
Just minutes later we’d always know
It was off to dreamland he’d gently go.
His personality just grew in bounds
His own opinion, he had, we found.
He had to wear his ‘cowboy jeans’
And everything else ‘cowboy’ it seemed.
So we wrote a little ditty for him
For it happened time and time again.
We titled it simply “Cowboy Jeans”
And while he dressed we had to sing.
He learned quickly how to get his way
With the cutesy little things he’d say
Like “Memem, can I pend da nite?”
Of course it usually worked just right.
A grandchild is God’s special gift
That I’ll cherish every moment with.
As he lays his little hand in mine
A more precious gift I’ll never find.

I know the exact feeling; seven times over, and each one of them just as special in their own way, ( first grandson, first granddaughter, etc). Thanks for bringing back wonderful memories.

God could never have given you a sweeter gift. And it is in the face of the child we know God exists and God is love. Bill
