Inspired by a quote from a poet named Hafiz- "The sun never says to the earth, "You owe me." Look what happens with a love like that. It lights up the whole sky." I agree with that, or otherwise what's the point, we just live in fear of love.
Open hands
with signs of scars-
a beating soul
set free from
feathered
fingertips
and i flew
and i always will
and so will you
and time and space
offer only this
offer fullness
and closed eyes
in rooms where
i can only taste
and feel you
-unselfishness-
so much
and love and
so much fear
makes lifeless
monsters
from colorless
corpses
-yet living-
yet living
is ice-cream cold
and bruised knees
and hearing you
and seeing you
and i will live
i will choose
and live and
bruise, melt ,
What is the point indeed! Half the fun is in the mess we make! Love is a treat that should be enjoyed with the understanding that it is sweet, but it can get sticky..."and live and bruise and melt" a subliminal message of loving oneself enough to try love again? Wonderful poem Michelle!
Made me think of the old song, "You always hurt the one you love"
For one reason or another, love includes pain. Love is not possession, but selflessness, or unselfishness, as you have written.
The open, scarred hands, whether you intended it or not, speak of the greatest love--the love of Jesus Christ as He bore the sins of those He loved.
Yes, love. Wonderful writing!
Much thought provoking words here Michelle. I came to the epiphany yesterday that the fear of love is what keeps us from loving. I was faced with that fear and after reading your poem, I feel very clear about my fear...wow,
