This was another prompt using the first line. :)

Winter Words

Words are ice-axes

for the frozen sea within

left within our coldest parts

of where of the pain begins

You jab me with I love you’s

and bury me in full quotes

of how you said "I need you"

in those letters that you wrote

My favorite devil in the pocket

of furthest reaches north

my bones are broke and brittle

from your iciest retort

Cold have gone your words now

dropping off these icicles gleam

I search among the snow banks

for a man of passing dreams

Much has gone now for the axes

have swung with verbal force

my sea within breaks slowly

for our summer’s run its course

-- you have constructed your poem quite well -- its lessons are many -- may peace be with you -- JMW

Comparing a lost love to the changing on the season is so smart a write. As a man changes quickly, so do the seasons pass very quickly now. A man says lots of hurting words, is ice cold at all seasons when he cools down but the seasons give you comfort, stength and even abiding love. They never let you down, they come back in full splendor.

...how well you have written...of season passing...of one...words cold...no longer swinging...beneath waters of deepest emotion.
wonderful poetry Michelle.

Wow, Michelle, the lessons here are varied and oh so true. Words can wound sometimes and sometimes, so deeply that they leave a scar.

I love the analogies and the poem.
Thanks,
Jill

Dear Michelle,

Your verses reminded me of something that I wrote some time ago:

"Harsh words
like shrapnel
rip and shred
my heart
the cold steel
chills my blood
within the emptying veins
of my weakened body
and steals my breath..."

It seems to me that we are on "the same page." Thank you for sharing your talents. Love, hugs, and my very best sentiments,

Sustained lyrical images that work well and are beautifully woven into the fabric of the feelings; "...my sea within breaks slowly for our summer's run its course" brings the poem to a very satisfying end.

Like the way this one unwinded the analogy from beginning to end and the summation was perfect. Well done.
