It was hard giving this a title, as it was based on a picture of a Chinese export charger that depicts Peter the Great in polychrome enamels, circa 1750. My poem has nothing to do with China or Peter the Great, just by how the art hits me when I look at it. It's hard to explain, it's just something that pops out of me. I entitled it the way I did because that is what I am doing by writing. Blessings to all xx M

feet wet from our cresting reverie long after we walked out of the water

our two sets of toes buried in fickle sand and a tide's slow rising

it casted our far souls alight when receding yet it resembled

half moons closing in your eyes where skies once edged out the stars

though men worked, bare-backed, i sang and you played guitar

and our song made the leaves chuckle and applaud with a fury

one reckless and strange for trees so silent before our coming

yet they bowed their full heads to the parade of our words

some told me to stay so very still when my heart was free

it always was and is and i stayed and I wept for you

wept like the call of the crow in the farthest off night

a cacophony of shadow notes left on stilts in the mud

i thought i should go but i didnt and stayed calling you

till my skin and my voice had  grown hoarse with the whispering

i remained naked embedded on the sea bed of new dawnings

yet my seaweed hair twisted deep in this absence of breathing.

I really like your writing. I also like the fact that you use paintings, an artwork, to inspire your art of writing. Nice!

Oh my...this is totally stunning and captured my eyes and mind from opening line to ending. Michelle you do not give yourself near enough credit...you are an excellant poet with a heart that pours into each line as if it were special to each reader.

This astounding "work through seconds" deepens my belief that poetry, like any art, does not really need to lead the readers anywhere but beauty. That is where I find myself, upon letting myself be led, line after line, by your vision, Michelle.

a story told in engaging images and lyrical language... some wonderful lines here: my favs:

half moons closing in your eyes where skies once edged out the stars

a cacophony of shadow notes left on stilts in the mud

yet my seaweed hair twisted deep in this absence of breathing.

... last lines, funnily enough! Just wondering about all the enjambements and repetition in the penultimate line, though... otherwise the flow is dreamy. TY Kate xx

Oh Michelle I've missed you, somehow when I was having computer problems, I lost a lot of people I've tracked. I was so excited on seeing your name when I was seaching for you. Once again, I was not disappointed, your pictures you bring to mind through your poetry are as vivid as a masterpiece. Well done, Love, Bonnie

Grrrrrrrrrr comment below. Poetry is like art: different interpretations for different viewers (or in this case, readers). Keep painting your verse on my eyes, and don't let detractors stop you! This is beautiful, BTW.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
