Inspired by a painting of the same name by Carl W. Peters, 1897-1980, oil on canvas

I love winter snuggling, too, so that helped inspire this. I think I could live in bed in the winter, lol.

Poem Artwork

Another life exhaled in clouds of chilled breath

exhalations that walk in worn-out bedroom slippers

gingerly across the sturdy backs of long winter days

where hands find hands in pockets of cold like this

this searching to join heats and bodies and snows

so our path is found in deer tracks laid visible

beside the upturned stones in half-frozen streams

round the curve in the bend of the land that we share

two travelers to the lights we left on in the kitchen

no daring treks or visits to strange wilds on our trips

but yet there’s something about a sky of grey blankets

pulled all up tight to the chin of the slimmest of trees

that snuggles us with it in unison of blissful new dreams

and the roof top all padded with pillows of snowfall

upon our house that’s the color of coffee with cream

the flakes we shake off of our boots in the hall

and our clothes soon to follow in a ball on the floor

till naked we creep up the stairs without thought

to the blizzard that builds all around us this wall

for within it we lie in the arms of each other

united as one in slow movements of lovers

the last line says it all for me, with the brilliant brushstrokes of a master's painting your words burst with colour and reality. I love winter and snow, and the purity it seems to offer with each new white washing coat but you are right when the snows are falling thick and heavy outside...there is nothing like being naked warm and toasty with a lover inside.

Michelle, Your romantic heart shows through well in this contrast of cold and hot, and the therapeutic effects of flesh against flesh, sharing body heat. I so wanted to relive the days those words reminded me of in my boyhood winters in Maryland. This was a pleasant romp in the snow, and rang very true for one who has been there. Well done! I love reading this poem.It can make any heart feel good and warm.I can just picture myself walking with my girlfriend in the snow and smelling out "I love you" on the snow. Then going inside, listening to love songs, cuddling with each other on the blanket, drinking hot cocoa and making sure she feels special.Snow is indeed a beautiful thing to see and witness.I love the picture and I enjoy reading your poetry that goes along with the picture.Take care of yourself

You are truly a goddess of poetry, Michelle. Sometimes I do not have the right words because nothing I come up with seems worthy. I love this poem. I love what it expresses. It would be a privilege to walk in the snow with you. Thank you for sharing this gift. Love and hugs and best wishes always,

xoxo Regis
