On All Souls day, this is for the baby I wish I had the choice to keep, no matter what the circumstances.

Also inspired by a painting by an incredible artist, Roseta Santiago.

that was the dress hanging there today

a silent reminder of yesterday's regrets

still wrapped in old pink tissue paper

and all white cotton eyelet and frills-

and they told me it was my "choice,"

but it wasn't at all,

and they told me they understood what i was going through,

but they weren't even close

just ghostly girl doll dresses

resting weary on pale wood hangers-

goodbye, baby, goodbye

they will tell me that you weren't meant to be,

not true , baby, not so

they will tell me that you weren't even a baby,

oh no, but yes, i will tell them that you were

even though they talk so clinically of conception

as if you weren't

flesh and blood,

on white cotton eyelet and frills,

lace collars and tissue paper dreams,

hanging still in the black of the nothingness

left where you were taken away

no choice on the giving or the taking,

no choice but this death that we see,

you and me, baby, just you and me

Courageous Michelle,
How you touch me with your wounded heart. Poignant words of love, to a soul that has moved on to be with God.

You have "connections" to a world that most of us get to glimpse at at most in dreams. Thank you for sharing your insight. Love u, Michelle,

Sometimes, far too often actually, "choice" is never really ours. Perhaps, for us to come to grips with such loss, we create the mist of illusion that speaks of the control of life we'd like to know. Beautifully written, from that tender and still bruised place in the heart. Regards, SC

Michelle,

I am deeply saddened by your highly personal and courageous write, using your skill as a great poetess has left us all floundering for the right words deserving of a review. I wish you nothing but happiness in your life from today until eternity.

I am touched by this work. I wish it will help seal the door where such a "choice" is promoted anywhere and save us all this kind of tears.

Bless you.

A woman must make her own choice of herself and what belongs to her, and not to be influenced by another. I'm sorry you were influenced.

Michelle,

Undone by the power, the sadness, in these haunting lines: so sorry, words fail.

This poem brought real tears to my eyes. They told you all this nonsense, which did not help you feel better as they thought it would. What an ultimate loss for you. I'm sorry. --Kathy

Choice is a word that stays, like an echo throughout this poem.
When I read this, I realize how difficult it is to write about this experience and also that babies are born twice. The first birth is in a mother's eyes and soul.

Michelle,

A most heart wrenching write. To never know what it would have been, what would or your the child would, as one carried a child but for five months, I feel your pain.

Dear Michelle, the sadness of a lost child no matter how it is lost remains with a mother for life, it does not matter if it is a fetus, a toddler, a youth, a teen or an adult. The only cosolation we can take is if God does choose Angels they are the first ones to receive their wings. My heart and my arms go out to you in caring.

I hurt for you for my daughter is going through the same thing, scared and terribly frightened she made the choice that she will live with for eternity. I wrote a poem for her Michelle many years ago that she said got her through it. It's called Littest Angel". Prayers and hugs, Love, Bonnie
