Inspired by a painting (oil, 14x24) of the same name by Bryce Cameron Liston. This painting, which I adore, won Best in Show in the 2008 Oil Painters of America Western Regional Juried Exhibition. The artist mentions his influences as many of my own favorite 19th century painters, so maybe that explains my enthusiasm for his work :)

Burgundy velvet embraces on chocolate paisley sheets

and now you’ve gone back to your familiar retreat

every inch on my body sore from wanting your lips

where the trail of your kisses burn from my neck to my hips

this longing in my distant gaze a reckless call to you

a lighthouse in the waves of these everyday cares

the things I shift around uncomfortably without you

without your smile to remind me of this that we share

yes, kisses at midnight, hands roaming there, silent gasps

and sighs in mid-air, flashes and traces of what is in skin

but more are those things that mean nothing to sin,

heart talks, dream thoughts, and where souls touch within

please don’t ask me to explain in words of this world

for none come close to touching upon the reasons why

like trying to describe the places I once used to hide

that are now open to you without fear, thought or pride

so, yes, here I will wait for you on paisley and black

the dark of my hair down the pale of my bare back

a crimson cushion behind me to hold me up when you leave

blissful memories of love that remain on the air that I breathe

You have left this reader floating on clouds of bliss, longing for a kiss. Thank you Michelle. The shadow of your verses, only masks the glory of the sun drenched spirit within you. Well done poetess.

Paint me as you did before please, Michelle. Just kidding. I am not worthy to comment on your writing. I love it and that's all. Love and hugs and best wishes,

A sumptuous sensual poem that doesn't need the canvas your words paint the images captured by the readers mind. Marvelous!

Michelle,

I love Paisley. Had a jumper, would wear it as often as I could. My absolute favorite. Haven't seen this pattern in years, but seeing it here brings back comfort and joy. :)

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

This is breathtaking Michelle, one can sense your love and desire and the love shared by another. Very well done with so much feeling, if this painting inspires such wonderful poetry it must indeed be a masterpiece.
