Seconds split the quiet, before she sees him through the grey,
the morning fog lifts for a moment, then finally breaks the day,
around the bends and subtle curves of water’s shifting moods,
pale flesh beneath thin cotton awaits their passion’s interludes
Anchors raise o’er scarlet days as he waves goodbye once more
to she who’s waited patiently in their love nest upon the shore
the buoy bell rings and the seagulls sing, ‘tis time to be away
turns his back and don’t look back, aye ‘tis time to earn his pay
She puts much ink to paper in her diary and to fill her dreams,
of better days where they share time, even though it seems,
that time passes as swiftly as the tides that pull his ship away,
leaving her with four bare walls and more time to sit and pray
Looking down at his calloused hands of old and worn out leather
smiles thinking of a summer day, of her naked in the purple heather
‘till the sea his demanding mistress, calls out once more his name
blows to shore another kiss, a goodbye wish, until they meet again
The feel of his rough old hands dancing upon her fair young skin,
is her memory’s one pure delight, though some may call it sin,
she knows full well, that she would wait, forever for those very hands,
when he returns from distant shore, in their cottage on shifting sands
"Oh my love, you've come home again" she whispered and held him tight,
"Better our love in fleeting moments, then a loveless wedding night."
He spoke of love in soft kisses, hoping they would last until another day
"Aye sweet lass, I’ll love you, till the tides takes me back to stay…"

All good things to you and yours,

""Brandy, you're a fine girl,
what a good wife you would be,
but my life, my love, and my lady is the sea..."
The painting looks like Nessie in the middle of the foggy loch...
Like a mysterious woman appearing from the shadows and then disappearing again.
Interesting piece, far more complex than I myself have the talent to write. Well done, Poetess!

Excellent story and portrait of lover's trysts.
I can almost hear the words of the song -
"Brandy, you're a fine girl,
what a good wife you would be,
but my life, my love, and my lady is the sea..."
