Based on a stained glass by John La Farge (1835-1910)

Sitting here marking this vellum paper on the very spot

where I cut it open yesterday in this yearning to find you

on other days where you have scaled the length of words

and your watercolor stained blue love poems ignited the stars

A thousand roaming fingers delving into this loss of spirits

cupping and shaking up the silence, this reason to breathe,

to work, to languish and rhyme in circles the way I love you

into hands too weak to hold the nothing left with missing you

The colors saturated the ridges of my fingertips when I awoke

I had painted you in soft blues on the white of my inner thigh

it was a sky there then but had darkened to inky when you left

no moons or warm passages through to the other side of night

On the edge of my cushioned chair perched with restless limbs

wondering if there is any place left to look where you are not

a prison with golden creations and cut glass flowering sighs

to create fires beneath covers hiding the sparks that we fly

Poetry into art...into feelings! Emotionally charged write, and softly but firmly written. Much enjoyed this...you have a wonderful talent for making words express your ideas.
May you always be in the brightest of the light,
Jim

Michelle, I must have read this 4 or 5 times over. I really enjoyed
it. I would have titled it 'Prison of Gold' only because I'm not sure the adjective 'Inky' works to describe your lover nor stained glass. Yet, you know best since you wrote it. I thought it was a wonderful poem with dazzeling lines woven together. Loved your closing line.

"a thousand roving fingers delving into the loss of spirits..." this line as one of many well shaped and sculpted phrases touches the reader by reaching out and making a romantic connection. Very nicely done indeed Michelle,

VERY poetic, but then that is what it is all about, isn't it . . . Still, some poem are more so than others and this just happens to be one of those in my judgment . . . Your style is silky smooth and almost gossamer, if that indeed can be a style. Beautifully written sad poem because of the loss of a great love . . .
