Hello, all. Being in pain, I came on here only to read a few poems and go to bed. I have read poems tonight by a poet who so moved me, I had to immediately write this poem after reading hers. Her name is Emily G Fieldus, and if you read her poems, you will see why they affected me so. So, Emily, this one is for you., and God Bless you.

Chalk lines left by design

thin scrapes of nails and old polish

red and chipped in the opened wounds

beautiful confetti to alight in your blood

yellow tape to wrap around straight

and curved with bold letters of black

cowering shadows sneaking to smile again

for the camera’s flash and the fading of day

sirens will wail like babies slapped

and baby is slapped and that’s the least

pinned to the ground where the carpet is stained

bits of threads still left caught in your loose teeth

come home again he was sorry he said

forgiveness in an unopened can of beer

his breath will reek just the same the next time

he tells you he won’t be happy till he sees you dead

stripped down to the bones that he breaks

cut open to the core of the soul he destroys

shaved small with the carvings of the you left behind

the day you believed the lies that true love never ends

Thank you so much for this poem..abuse, whether it be physical or mental is horrible..this poem makes one envision being at the crime scene, like an unintended voyeur..Checked out some of your other poetry and enjoyed those also. Am going to put you on my list of authors to track..Thanks for sharing..

True love still never ends. What you are writing about is not true love, but how we deceive ourselves into thinking we are in love when we are just codependent (in a bad way).

A poem won't solve it. We must summon the courage to run in the opposite direction as fast as we can. I'm sorry, like war, I can't encourage or glorify bad behavior.

abusive relationships always fill me with anger and hostility -- cowardly men devoid of love, with no sense of reason commit such violent acts -- this a powerful, moving poem Michelle -- peace, love and great joy to you my friend -- Jon Michael

Thanks to you, Michelle, and to Emily, for this powerful
and agonizing look into the abusive pain and madness that
so often goes unseen outside the family. -gene.

Boy, this is raw, the telling it like it really is. Almost makes me shake a bit, too near to old experiences of mine in my youthful and innocent ways. Blessings, J'nia

Michelle,

Powerfully penned heartbreak - the lines,

" ... sirens will wail like babies slapped ..." deeply effecting sadness. I shall have to read more of Miss Emily's work.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Hope you feel better, soon. :(

Michelle ~
Your poem is profound and says so much..I pray the readers take this to heart. A police report does not do much, they only advise a restraining order and then left the bastard out of jail to repeat the offense. A hospital will link the abused to a safe house and other resources and make the police report as well.
I hope your pain is soon diminished and your healing begins.

My vigil is for legitimate laws to Domestice Violence and your selfless calling, while you are suffering yourself.

It is our DV laws that are the Crime. Warmth to those who are dealing with such a horrific crime and for you Michelle. Love, Carin

Thank you for shedding more light to this
