Mornings came in heavy soled shoes
the closed grey curtains shuddered
at the approaching brightness
and its revelations on
what can be seen of what we deny
buttery sweet pastries with edges curled
small pockets of crispy golden seashells
in them we swallow endless wild seas
to cover the footprints we leave
on the cresting of high waves-
(I taste sea salt and sugar on your lips)
no one knows here- no one cares
about where your home lives
or where my self-respect hides
willing to vacation with the love of you
in interiors cocooned in bliss-
we shelter in long shadows
climbing tall buildings to guard
our delicate yet far-flung desires
triangle blue sky gathering promises as petals
to store in our drawers beside hope and faith
leaving prying eyes to live in the warmth of kisses
in the silent corners of ancient roman streets
if only-
I would wait forever for you
through long cold winters
or fickle springs when the rains come,
until these quiet summers at last arrive
bits of autumn still entangled between
our naked thighs
