This is based on a painting of the same name by Lawrence Alma-Tadema, one of my all-time favorite painters

Poem Artwork

days gone now of blissful mornings

when I would awaken and know I’d see you

God, how I miss seeing you and hearing the words

of even the simplest of everyday things

trying to figure out how when they come from you

they seem so much more than any other

nights gone now of secrets and stories

confessions of past and present dreams

God, how I miss seeing you and hearing the words

of even the simplest of nighttime things

trying to figure out how seductions coming from you

seem to touch me so much more than any other

I cry in bed each night when I think of how much

my heart still breaks at missing you

remembering when you sang to me– sang into me

and I wonder why only you of all the men I have known

have had this inexplicable hold on my heart

and will until time is no more and we are finally one

everyday I rise and try so very hard to lie to myself

to ignore your existence and speak not even a hello

to my best friend– you have been the best of friends

to pretend that with each new day of silence

it will become easier to live without you

but it doesn’t

and I ask God

how much more time will it take

to stop loving you

here is my heart in black and white

here is my heart no matter wrong or right

it will be yours for the taking until time truly ends

then in forever it will fly into your open arms

feel the warmth of your big embrace

the passion of your deepest kiss

and never ever let you go

Wow, this is stirring Michelle. I personally believe that if you ever loved some one, the love does not end due to separation of any kind. I simply move it to a place in my heart where I can continue to live and let more in. Exceptional piece my friend.

This is painfully sad but for love is often cruel and not meant to be, we can only hold on to the memories of the happiest times and go on with life for if we have never felt the pain of love then we have never known the beauty of it either. This is an exceptional write in every regard and does justice to you as a writer and a person.
