Goodbye Summer

This was actually inspired by a Connie Winters painting, but as I can't find that on her (gorgeous) website, I found a painting by Davidi that gives almost the same feeling, though the Winters painting was really breathtaking. I hate summer, love autumn and winter, so I actually LOVE waving goodbye to summer and my sun allergy clothing, lol!!

Poem Artwork

In the ridges of forgotten seashells between golden grains of sand,

pleasing memories huddle as one, in the palms of our opened hands,

coral crableg-curved, we kneel closer to the edge of the sea,

the starfish-shaped shovel, an old tin pail-- you and me,

Pastel summer days and cotton candy, pink-sugar-sweet,

at the end of long afternoons, it is our airy angel treat,

spreading across the expanse of water, and up into the sky,

beachcombing babies with gazes small, for treasures to espy

Wet sand firm and cold, though we both know it drifts away,

still we gather it, within cupped hands, when we go out to play,

I close my fingers quick, to keep it there a few minutes more,

but you spread your fingers wide, to send it down the shore,

Watch it now, dear brother, for sand and summer steal your days,

and I still long to see you running there, within the dusky haze,

I run behind you now, as always, down the beach back home,

but summer flees, you're leaving me, alone and free to roam,

Goodbye, summer, pack your bags, full of skies of deepest blue,

and don't forget the fading roses, you left in a room with a view,

you have gone, it's true , and left one last golden-shining ray,

the boardwalk's empty, and so am I, much to my heart's dismay.

Ya just can't beat a summer at the beach, anywhere else I'm with you, no fun. Autumn is best for me. Patrick

Soul-stirring, Michelle. I have a penchant for autumn and winter as well. I find they are more in harmony with my soul. Thank you for sharing this gift. Love and best wishes,

Regis

Michelle,

Indeed. Today, pop up afternoon thunderstorms broke the back of Summer heat - something I've been looking forward to for a long time! Been a long, hot, brutal year. This is absolutely beautiful, well done!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

With sweet memories to stay

Michelle this is soooo love filled. I can feel the love you carry for your brother in the lines but I can also feel your acceptance of what he would have wanted of you. I too look forward to the fall and winter, and the holidays with snow and bright lights but your beach does have a wonderful childlike freedom to it...great picture you chose.

Most people look forward to the summer, except some die-hard, paunchy, forty-year-old beach bums, and they're just kidding themselves. I try to like all seasons, because each one has its own identity and charm, but like liking one child better than the rest I have my druthers, and that druther is Fall. Winter: frozen water pipes and avalanches / Spring: tornadoes / Summer: Hurricanes / Fall: Perfect

Nice work on this poem.
