Poem Artwork

Transport me...

jumbled words were spoken

from unfamiliar tongues

tied with the devotion of lies

told in midnight hotel moments

before daylight and taxi departures

And we departed...

long haul flights were taken

though we were sure we had grown the wings

silver eagles fine and touching the edge of sky

until the tangles of the ground below grew smaller

and the almost plastic stewardess said "Peanuts?"

How could I have imagined it?

I couldn't have

though I tried constantly during motionless minutes

on snaking customs lines and in the

pulse of the public restroom's flickering light

and there I saw Italy forming in the shape of a tile

wistfully wandering beneath a sun the color of bees

And then it happened...

We were there

Three strange explorers on a far-flung beach

and you

following along

knowing the way the waves echoed in romantic hearts

a burden later when carried to the doldrums of home

Ah, but then the breeze...

I could still smell its freshness on the white soft of my dress

oh, how it laughed the carefree laugh of children

happily stained by the grit of wet sands

so much bliss that

it teased me my lack of courage

to stay

a runaway from a life

where home got its name

You capture the heart and soul of the painting and create a short story of summer breezes and warm sands...lovingly done as always.

Michell, your interpretation blends and melds with great expertise into the rendering -- your ability grows with each new piece I read -- and for someone that was top notch to start with, that is quite remarkable - I do dearly love your poetry -- may peace and love be always with you my friend -- Jon Michael

Dear Michelle, First the painting is nice and bright and with your nice poem it lets me dream about our quiet sea. During summertime there was a warm ambiance created by the charm of the beach cities when they are invaded by the inhabitants of the big city, who are running away from the heat of the capital. Nights were enchanting and we would spend the greater part of our nights there on the beach, along with whole families, all searching for the coolness of a calm sea, without a wave. I could go on and on dreaming. Love Emile

MERCIFULLY...THE BREEZE...IT ONLY LAST FOR MOMENTS, THOUGH IN THOSE MOMENTS A WHOLE LIFE TIME CAN BE LIVED...BUT THEN...HOME. A SUPERB WORK! YOU TOUCHED THAT SECRET 'BREEZE' THAT WE ALL, AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER, HAVE ENCOUNTERED AND CERTAINLY CAN IDENTIFY WITH. BLESSINGS. AND THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR UNIQUENESS WITH US ONCE AGAIN. Firstly, I'm enthralled by the painting, Michelle; it's capture of Mediterranean light is exquisite. Secondly, but actually primarily, I'm bowled over by the wonderful way in which you allude to romantic experience here without every mentioning it head-on: the mark of a very mature writer. You have brought us a well-rounded short story in the space and content of 36 lines. Telling details bring your characters, scenes and settings to life and the final couplet anchors us in the soul of the female subject so that we might understand the reasons why it is she will not ultimately become that runaway. Again, telling a story without actually "telling" it is what all gifted writers strive for. Bless you, and may this year be a gracious and blessed one. xx
