High School Sweetheart

A Lost Love

Tonight my sister called


Do you remember the boy


You dated all through high school?


 


He passed away last night


I don’t know why


I’m sorry sis, I really am.


 


The cutest boy in school


A year ahead of me


Captain of the football team


 


Said he loved me


And wanted us to marry


We fought and made up at least a dozen times


 


The engagement mended seven times.


It was always me he said he loved


And kissed me tenderly and lovingly


 


Tonight I mourn his passing


Although we have not talked in 30 years


I always remembered him with love.


 


Not too old, just 54


And, now he’s gone to heaven


For he was a good man and always was


 


I mourn his passing.

a sad and simply honest tribute, without embellishment. And that's the way it should be, for we all can have only 1 H.S. Sweetheart in life! Those loves, no matter how difficult leave a lasting impression on our hearts: I'm glad yours was positive! Thinking of you...

Ann, a loving tribute to one taken too young! Mourning is something we all do in our own way, but it is important to do it in order to release the pain of loss. My heart and thoughts are with you! Blessings for all!

Wow, it is so strange that I should have written a fiction poem about losing a first love and then have that be a reality in your life. I am so sorry for your loss, Ann. No matter how many years have passed, he was an important part of the woman you are today and a warm memory of days gone by.
