No Tears Worthy

We were young...and then the crash

In one heartbeat,

thunderous sounds of gleaming black metal

violently slamming, twisting into carnage,,,

shredded spinning ungrounded tires

show all of heaven their dying treads.

Piercing silent screams
of dead-set headlights

beseeched help from the illuminated

pines of winter.

In one heartbeat,

silent beseeching brown eyes

stared upwards though the glare

of unforgiving sterile lights

while gloved hands ripped away

bloody remnants from limbs

forever to be as unyielding

as was the now cold twisted metal

In the hours of a heartbeat...

we were young no more.

And so I ran...

ran from the glaring lights

of that unknown beginning

and now, faster still

from the end

with no tears worthy of the pain

This is proof, once again, that words in the hands of a master can stir the soul and leave the reader in stunned silence.

Pat, this is such a gut wrenching write...each reader feeling the pain. Nice writing for a sad subject.

A tremendous write here Pat.
I grieve unto this story of tragic loss.
But I know, time is the sergeon whose
steady hand heals the wounds of the heart,
and the seed of acceptance that you painfully
cultivate, will blossom into the wisdom of your soul.

Particularly dramatic and powerful visually, Pat!
I hope this is not auto-biographical, but you do make it sound so, and with tremendous emotion.
Happy New Year and Blessings,
Christine

".... In the hours of one heartbeat... we were young no more." Sometimes a simple statement such as this will set the tone that makes it all work, that makes it meaningful and pertinent. I think this was one of those times.

Thanks Dick

It doesn't take much time for a life to be changed forever. Time does not forgive, only you can. Patrick

Damn! You made this so real, Pat, I was in that car with you. Seldom do I read a poem with more in-your-face pure drama than this one. For a moment there I began to think all the stanza's before the last one were metaphors for a disastrous affair, but no, I don't think so. It read too real to me to be that.
