Hear me oh darkness!
Let me wallow in your sow's mire
of doubt and discontent.
Let me languish in this litany of sad lament,
the angst of fearsome freedoms
I have yet to taste,
of perilous pathways to leisure
I have yet to make.
Let me smear this dark decay
over any window shining clear,
seal fast all open portals
to well-wishes and their cheers.
Let all be dark!
that peering eyes may witness not
this comic visage of my fears.
Ah, but there be the luxury,
if there be only time to loll about in this,
my egregious plight.
But no!
What is this intruder, this theiving nuisance
but the mid-morning sun rousing me
in shameless glory,
throwing at my feet, gems of blinding possibilities...
beckoning a waltz into light.
And so...I will dance.
In these diamond soled slippers
I will dance,
for he cannot be denied.
This poem does remind me of depression but also the will to fight one's way up from the pit. The light is victory, perhaps. Sometimes it is not so welcome as it is unfamiliar for a time and thus unwelcome. Then again, maybe I read too much into it, and it is as simple as a reluctance to awaken from deep, dark and compelling dreams to morning's beckoning rays. Either way I will reread it again in a few days and see what it says to me then. Thought provoking and lovely, really. Many blessings to you.
Be well,
Kathy
From the darkness of sleep's dreams agony to the enlightenment of the morning sun, you have written a poem of charm and worth. The images were delightful.
Contraband Marriage, traveling along the hemline of loving after incarceration, is a love story written in lyric and free form, set in reality with a different ever after.
Be well,
Kathy
peace be with you

Sounds like depression to me...
Always,
Deborah
seeing as the music
may drown off memories of the past
and give away to freedom! Well done, Pat!
