went back
to the "Old Neighborhood"
the other day.
not a safe place for me to "Be".
not much was different,
not much had changed.
seems like it just
stays "That Way".

kinda gloomy place
mosta' the time.
lotsa' confusion there.
but that part's pretty sublime.
that is unless you grew up "Where?".

whenever i go back
not much gets done.
and, when i'm "There",
really ain't much fun.

problem is i see,
now i've gone away,
the place gets run by a "Commitee".
guess it'll always be " That Way".

one wants "This".
one wants "That".
he "Did".
she "Did".
we "Qoughta' ".
"Shoulda", "Coulda", "Woulda' ".

seems like when i'm "There"
i get drawn in so fast.
keeps callin' up memories
of the furture and the past.

oh, guess i oughta' say
before i go away,
'fore all's done & said.
that "Old Neighborhood" is my Head.
