your honor
i stand before you
with a need
a plea

i be a poet
i be
so this is how i wrote it
hope you can see
this just be me

my son stand's before
you
i do too
what do we do

i be an old hippie
an old drunk
yippie-k-ya
i be a drunk
anyway
but not today

i did my share of drugs in my time
i drank, i drank alot
but not
today
what can i say

to you
your honor
what can i do
what can i say
anyway

i was a bad dad

had what i had
that make's me sad
it's make's me mad
at who i was
& who i ain't
God know's i ain't been no saint

i quit drugs
a while ago
figgered' it weren't
the way to goes
i know's

but alcohol & me
we be trouble
we be a double
a triple
or 3

a bad boy i be

a bad dad
make's me sad
too bad
you had what you had

but
my son & i
we see eye to eye

i look him in the eye
and i see
he be me

i never got caught
never paid what i bought

but he
he ain't me

he alway's got caught
bought
what he sold
he be old
before
his time

never has found his rhthmn
never found his his rhyme
guess it just twere't his time

i ask the court to give him
his given'
let him keep on livin'

he's only sorry he got 'caught
at what he shouln't of bought
he's wrought
what he's sought
just a thought

was it you or i
why would we cry
live with this sin
until the end

give him a chance
give him a dance
wih life
with all it's strife

your honor
your honor
it's due
it' true
he be i Or he be you

i beg to you
send my son
where he begun
where he can begin agin'

he don't know it
he ain't thought it
just through
just what your honor can do

don't send him to jail
i ain't askin' bail
just let him sail
into re-hab-ilatation
let him find a new nation
a different situation

a poet i be
a poet i see
there in his eye's
don't ask me why's
i just see's

a young man
with life in his hand
so
your honor
let him stand
or fall
on his own 2 feet
stand or fall
he'll meet
his self
against the wall

he'll stand tall
or he'll fall

but give him a chance
afterall
we all had to dance

Very insightful write. We often learn through our children what we should change. So who really are the teachers? :-) Great write.
