the day he die

i was sittin' in a shoe shine shop
gettin' my alligator boots a pop
alligators they were
'cause that's what i wore

then we heard it on the radio
that's how he & i know
this old gentleman & me
Elvis no longer Be

i was young
he was old
me maybe 33
he be at least 63

but we both knew
the last song was sung
ain't no more rock-n-roll
that was a story that had been told
but for Elvis the Pelvis
his time was due
we both knew
that to be true

Elvis the Pelvis
was no longer around
we'd never agin' hear his sound

his country blues
shakin' his stand

i'll never forget
i'll never regret
the tears in our eye's
of that old genttleman & i's
as we said our goodbye's

we talked
he & i walked
down memory lane
we each had our own pain
he & i both
had our own insane

the day Elvis The Pelvis
died
that old black gentleman & i cried
he & i
knew a time had past
nuthin' forever last

'cause we both knew
rockin' & rollin'
Elvis paid his due

in heaven i hope
they both be strollin'
