an old poet's prayer
as he look's there
in the mirror
and stares

it's 2 am in the morning
and i woke up
these words they spoke up
to my mind
theyn weren't gone a leave me behind
they weren't that kind
nor that kind
they were words i had
to find
ain't that sad
too bad

an old poet's dream
an old poet's prayer
an old poet's scheme
an old poet who's been there

at 2 in the morning
still mourning
yesterday
and it still won't go away
not today

just an old poet's prayer
wishin' he weren't there
in today
when there's still he's yesterday's
to pass away's

Lord please grant me
one night's sleep to be
at rest
forgive me the rest
i thought i did my best
hell, is life that test
anyway
plese, Lord, let me rest
what else can i pray

but an old poet's prayer
as he sit's there and stares
at the mirror of his reflection
his , his, his
him
at 2 am

he just pray's
an old poet's
prayer
facin' another day
that won't go away
no matter
what this old poet say

today stay
at 2 am
it be the poet in him
