dear JESUS dear JESUS i hope that YOU know where i'm at i just sit where i sat
among those of us who do what we do or what we must be it Life or Lust we still want to know YOU goin' for broke full stroke full steam ahead until we're dead takin' a toke or a drink we never think about the toll it take's until we awakes until yesterdays have passed their way's what can i say when there ain't no tomorrow no more time to borrow from today we just go on and so on & so on singin' the same song you can bet we're tryin' to forget all that we done wrong singin' off key that's who we be's drunk's in the choir fealin' the midnight hour we are who we are we be who we be we just see that bright shinin' star out there so far like the smell of a new car (sorry that rhymed and i liked it) even as we shed a tear for what was so near and dear but now it's in the rear then comes the fear of what we see of who we be just a used car still tryin' to buy a new car (don't say anything about mixing metaphors) still lookin' at the same star so far away that today is already yesterday old thinker's old drinker's old hippie's and yippie's goin' around & 'round knowin' the sound of Life comin' down the song that we sing ain't the thing we thought our Life would bring it's just what we bought for what we sought it's sure not the golden ring (there i go agin' mixin' them metaphors- am i a bores well least i ain't a words whe) dear JESUS dear JESUS please hear us please help me not to metaphore no more not to be a bore dear JESUS dear JESUS please if you please just help me to be the me YOU made me to be and to write and make it thru tonight and not no more metaphores (i say with a smile all the while...) lookin' back down that railroad track hey JESUS cut me some slack let me backtrack a word or two a lifetime would do anyway thank you dear JESUS dear JESUS for puttin' up with me for lettin' me see just who i be who i am dn slam bam thank ya' mam' you show me the truth no need to call dr. ruth don't take no sluth nor superman's telephone booth (mixin' them agin') back where i begin thank you JESUS for lovin' me the poor sinner i be
