i remember
Easter's past
man, were they a blast
too bad they didn't last

i remember my kids
lookin' for eggs
where they were hids
there little legs
runnin' so fast
thru the grass
from tree ta' tree
and bush ta' bush
lookin' at me
ta' give 'em a clue
or a push
to a pot or 2
where if i was kind
they might find
an egg hidden so well
ya' could hardly tell
that's where it be
hidden where no child could see

some eggs we'd boil & dye
some eggs,
plastic, we'd buy
some eggs were just eggs
that's all they be
some eggs
had candy
some a little money
didn't matter to them nor to me
it was the hidin'
and the findin'
that brought us glee

the little one's
were always out dones
by the older sisters or brothers
but no one would care
'cause in the end
they all would tend
to share
guess they got that parts
from their mother's
who had such soft hearts

and when all was done
when all was thru
with the fading Sun
i'd Bar-B-Q
chicken
for finger lickin'
and sausage too
yup, that's what we'd do
potatoe salad & pinto beans
know what i mean?
man, those Easter's were serene

yes, i remember
Easter's past
too bad
they couldn't last
but, Today i'm happy not sad
'cause my kid's got kid's of their own
and i've been shown
what some have never known
as my kid's have grown
so have i
and i try
ta' never say "good-bye"
to Easter's past
thru them they will last
in my memory
forever a part of my ME

so whether you be
Christian or Jew
or even if you haven't a Clue
what you See
enjoy this day
too soon it'll pass away
and you'll look back and say
