Well, Steve, since I live in the tropics, I have to say I can so connect to this... I love the north. Lived years in Alaska and there the north is dark except for the short breathless summers when the sun is 24/7 for about a month or so.
There are no hurricanes in the north. Good point to consider. Though earthquakes aren't much fun either.
I have been North, lots to see, too cold in the winter and too humid in the summer for me though, but some breathtaking beauty to see if you have air conditioning and heat in your car. Very much worth the trip just the same. Not much USA south of you though anyway.
