i was just sittin'
on a barb stool
bein' a bar fool
forgettin'

then she sat down beside me
i glanced, she looked at me...

so
"whata' you do?"

it took me a moment
to realize
she
was talkin' ta' me
i could see
it in her eyes
and i wondered all my "why's"
remeberin' all my "good-byes"

"you talkin' ta' m, darlin'?"

"you the only one i ask.'

"and the ? was? once again"

"what do you do?"

pondered that a moment
said...
"breath"

she said, exasperated...
"no. for a living...
what do you do?"

said..."Capricorn!"

she asked "what? oh scorpio."

i ask the bartender for another
she ask " buy one for me?"
"you buyin' this round"
man, was that profound
she reached in her purse
said
"this one's on me"

"better be...
if you gonna' bother me..."

"so"
she said once again
"what kind of WORK do you do?"

"POETRY"

"are you rich?"

"hell, darlin',
ain't no money in poetry
that's what set's the poet free.
gotta tell you,
had all the freedom i can stand."

"what do YOU do?" i ask

"i'm an actress." she replied

"any money in it."
