i work
in a convenience store
the graveyard shift

"what a bore"
but,
it's so much more ...

i mean
i get
the lazies
the crazies
the in-between
them that forget
where they are
where they are goin'
some not knowin'
some just showin'
up
yup,
some that are down
ladies & men about town
some with a smile or a frown
a wedding gown
some that are but a clown
the whores
the bores
the "for-shores"
those that interupt my chores
there
in the convenience store
where
i do the floors

some they just talk
some they just walk
in
or
out
or all about
but then
they forgot
where they are
where they are goin'
a lost star
just glowin'
& flowin'
into my store
thru my door
on my floor
nothing more

the drunks & dreamers
the schemers
out to steal
for real
some just needin' a meal
or a cigarrette
some to buy a bet
or yet
a beer
some not so clear
some in fear

i mean
the pay ain't kean
but the show
is worth the 'go'
i just follow the flow
because i know ...

they all
deserve respect
what the heck
they may call
it neglect
if otherwise
i looked in their eyes
and saw their lies
saw who they 'are'
just a lost star
in the midnight sky
i never ask 'why'
or say 'nice try'
i just sell
to those who buy
oh well,
time will tell

i work
in a convenience store
nothing more
but, that's the perk
afterall ...
i ain't no jerk.

it's just work.

the rest is a perk
