(this is a write that began as a simple "humorous" bit of poetry... something about something that happened to me on my job...something a customer said & my response.
as i wrote it, after i wrote it & read it, i discovered that, at least in my aged feeble mind, had other conotations (ie. maybe what i wrote was not what i said.
in the store where i work, we have a display of watches, right by the cash register. i've been ther a few months now, and had never sold one, not 1, until the Xmas Season. hey, it waas there, it was cheap (9.99+tax), everybody needs a watch...right?. The Perfect Gift!
"oh, you shouldn't have...i didn't".
hell, it's in a locked carosell, how could i sell. i had to search for the key. out of probably 40 sumpin' watches 3, only 3, still worked. the others.... batteries dead!
to me, that began as a simple, humorius thing.
Last night (01/06/06) a customer asked about the watches... then he/she (it was a couple... she wanted him to spend money...he wanted to spend money to Impress her) anyway, she found a lovely watch & she needed a watch..yah-dah-yad..a doo dah... BUT,
she exclaimed..."it's not working!", being The SalesMan I Am I, i said but mam'i lied i replied Replied... "Darlin', that watch is for you. 'cause you make Time Stand Still." He paid for it, she bought it. shit! $9.99 + TAX for my BS. shit, she'll be an day older & he'll be another sawbuck in debt...poets, prophets, doctors, lawyers & Salemen...never trust us.)
