Sometimes it is asked for, other times it is just given.

At times it is ignored and at other times it is taken.

Somehow it always seems to help one come to a good decision.

Wisdom is the key that unlocks the kingdom,

Replacing the need for dependency and giving freedom.

When a child turns eighteen and is ready to claim his independence,

No longer needed, is a parent’s presence.

What is a mother to do, in the moments she is feeling a little blue?

She can go shopping and buy him gifts that are exceptionally nice,

Or she can write her son a letter full of heartfelt advice.

My Child,

 I have taught you to be a humble & compassionate person by introducing you to community service and showing you the value in giving back. It is my hope that in observing struggles you were taught the invaluable gift of education and the perseverance to overcome rejection. I didn’t kiss every boo boo or shower you with over confidence. This in turn made you tough and determined to be your personal best. Laying a foundation of rules and repercussions taught you values, respect and good judgment.

Now you are an adult!

Always look inside and remember you, and only you, determine your happiness. Always place value on the things that are priceless, like the beach & the sunset, most importantly the love you receive from others. Don’t over value people in your life, but know true friends are invaluable. Invest only in people that invest in you. Don’t waste time on those that don’t deserve your time.

Money can’t buy you a Positive Attitude, Integrity, Respect, Loyalty, Character, Love, Trust, Happiness, Wisdom & Friendship. You will be incredibly rich with these top 10 things and very successful. Money doesn’t equal power, faith equals power!

Life truly is shorter than we all think, just ask a parent what happens when they blink. It seems like just yesterday I was holding you in my arms.  I know you will leave a positive mark on the community, and in the lives of others, as you serve and protect. Above all, follow YOUR dreams!

Wisdom is the best gift I can think of to give to you for your 18^th birthday gift and I know you will appreciate it and refer to it in years to come.
