You Looked at Me and I Wept

"The Lord turned and looked at Peter. then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: 'Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.' And he went outside and wept bitterly." (Luke 61-62)

So many times You called me
But I tried not to hear You
For another love had held me
And yes, how I loved him too.

I said You are my Savior
Yet that part of my heart is mine,
You can have all other parts, Lord-
But with him I drew the line.

I loved him oh so dearly
In my heart he was enthroned,
So engrossed in my idolatry
I forgot that I was owned.

For You are my jealous God
And You will not share the space
In my life and in my heart
You'll reclaim it again with grace.

My denial was so often,
My betrayal more than one kiss,
And as I nailed You once again
Flogged You with my pride such as this.

Like Peter, "I never knew You"
All I know is his love I kept,
You turned and looked at me through
I was broken and lost, I wept.

That look was not in anger-
It was the look of Love's forgiveness,
It came from my Lord and Master
Taking me back in His loving kindness.

Now it's Easter and I'm dying,
Just like the thief on that cross,
But with You I will be rising-
And that love will not be such a loss.

A dialog to you, a monologue to others, but this is Easter time, and a time to remember and not disown Him the thousand times since He told us that we too would disown Him.
A time of reflection and penitence, and wash our soul with a few tears.

Georg
