A Poem for a Friend

Under a starless purple sky
I listen to the sounds of waves
Pounding
Emotionlessly
Against the walls of my mind
1914 days
23 hours
42 minutes
21, 22, 23 seconds
Have past
From your soft, sweet, smiling hello
To
An inevitably unexpected
Goodbye

And I'm missing you

Oh excuse me for my melodramatic musings
But it hurts just the same
Things have changed and will never again be

Purple

Paisley is my music
Falling down thru the rain
Doves cry
Cooing matted and confused
What was it that the weatherman said?
"Gonna be a great day, today
Leave that ole umbrella at home
And enjoy"
Say that shit to my suede
As it rains

I inhale

To catch my breath
As my thoughts
Rush back
To
You
Burgundy wined
Ivory wrapped
Beautifully trained
In onyx twine
On a beach
Surrounded by rice filled palms of well wishers
My messages in bottles
Settling
Uncorked
In the glisten of the sunset
Splashed with foam
Against rocks of reality
For I can see that
You have become
Red with happiness
As my sky
Has turned

Blue

But at least it doesn't rain
And our vibe's the same
A blue sky is still a sky
But there will be a part of me
Trying to hide my pain
Nostalgic
For
Purple Skies

I've internalized my cries
My love will never die
We'll meet one day
On a sunny day
We'll share each other's eyes
And make the most of time

I say this softly to myself...

Trying not to cry
