A bell tolls.
Every day a bell tolls.
            Weary of the dying,
            we take our daily bread
            and pray

           for silence –
            a separate peace, quiet.
                        No more room for suff’ring,
                        we change the channel, turn

away.

                       A bell tolls.
                        Every day a bell tolls.
                                    Listen! The hour grows late;
                                    our neighbor waits in need
                                    this day.

                                   Rise up, now.
Rejoice, the Lord is with us.
                                             Let not these tolling bells
                                             set the tone, stifle us,
                                             delay

                                             our response
to those who wait for hope.
                                                     Rise up in harmony,
                                                     become like handbells in
                                                     full-scale play.

These Black and Blue Red Zone Days by Aberjhani

Just as life during the pandemic was color-coded with different hues representing different levels of danger, life in its aftermath has become shaded in similar ways. As a self-styled “Seeker of Beauty with Beauty,” (borrowing from a quote by W.E.B.

It's about how middling we are and middle means middle only like a big middle and class isn't school and outing's not a trip.

Born in Salt by T. Weber

In a post-coup America, an Illinois farm boy is drawn into the resistance by his brother's death. Captured, he is given a choice: betray his friends, or the girl he loves will be lobotomized.
