Willow, Will You?

Her sadness shows
in drooping shoulders fair but burnt
by scorching, searing summer sun.

Her eyes have cried
so many tears; they stare blankly
beyond far boundary of her care.

She wanders, seeks
shelter from elements without,
helter-skelter stalks her within.

In distance, she
sees a Willow tree, thinks this sun
may melt her heart and mind before

She reaches shade
it provides and determines this
will be the day that she confides.

Against Willow’s
solid trunk, she reclines with ease,
releases her many secrets.

“Willow, will you?
Oh, will you, Willow, please?” she asks.
No answer comes back in the wind…

The girl returns
to sit, simply be in calming
presence of finest, true st friend

Willow’s branches
bend as she finds her heart again
and rises up with confidence.

Great use of metaphor. Loved this poem, Dawn. It is melancholic but there's light at the end. Good job!

Many things in Nature can truly calm our hearts and souls - if we are wise enough to let them.

Marvelous poem, Dawn.

I liked this poem for the tender portrayal of a girl finding new energy being beside the willow tree. Just sitting with her
thoughts, calming.

Dawn, it almost appears that the Willow holds a spell over many artists.
My Mother always said the Willow was bad luck, but I just can't imagine something that delicate in Nature to be bad.
Your words spoke to me with direct touches. Excellent write as always!

Wonderful poem. There is power within human beings that allows them to speak with trees but only few have the keys to open nature's heart. And those few are the lovers.

Oh yes, Dawn! You have captured the essence of the graceful, loving willow for me and put your finger right on a spot I never knew existed. Engimatic and yet so close to home. Tender and compelling. TY Kate xx
