Ashes upon the Wind

Upon approach, one notices smoking
volcanic ash. In thin snaking columns,
white heat rears itself up from the surface
of her skin, taut with yellow-greenish tint.

A rumbling emanates from her belly
and signals an imminent explosion.
Intuition says, “Run! Now…” but you stay,
thinking yourself to be invincible.

And she smiles then at your naiveté.

Before you blink, pyroplastic blast and
shooting profanity flows forth like hot
lava oozing, building, bulging, dripping
down – contaminated river of hate.

The stench of a thousand collected wrongs
simmers in stew of molten memory.
Ground of being cracks beneath the pressure.
A state of decomposition prevails.

She looks on, unaware of her poison.

Into divided self rancid rage creeps,
solidifies to stony indifference.
Love disintegrates like ash upon wind
which never can decide which way to blow.

Those last two lines are awesome.
It's a sad commentary though but
I suppose there is a lot of truth
therein.

Dawn,

A person to be avoided at all costs. A painful, poignant read, visually disturbing--but captured spot on.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :(

This person truly sounds like a very contaminated river of hate, and a person to truly avoid.

Wow, wow, wow... don't I just know what this feels like?! Sounds like the Jekyl and Hyde that is me; and I'm not joking: if I could only describe how I think of myself sometimes, this would probably be it. And where does it all come from?! I think Eileen is right and that the pit of hell is not far wrong. The Bible also knows of this feeling when it says that He has promised us "beauty for ashes and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair" - to that hope I cling and believe for. Graphic is not an adequate enough word to tell you how I lived through this amazing description, Dawn; such is your skill of interpretation. TY and Bless you, Kate xx

Strong, strong craftmanship, but heart hurting to know the author of the words and wondering what pain is being experienced. Love, Henry

Thank God, never have to visit the mother-in-law any more.
Sorry, strange mood this morning.
This really is intense, deep, painful.
Some people we need to stay away from for our protection, but we often keep trying to do some good.

This is awesome writing but so deeply painful I feel like I'm watching a soul being tortured by demons! These are the kind of
thoughts to which I say be gone satan...Hope they are gone now...

Love,
Eileen
